Charles Norman Bannister was born in April 1898 in Manchester, Lancashire. He arrived in Fremantle on 23 July 1912 along with his family, including his father Charlie Bannister, one-time captain of Swindon Town. His father became a strong Claremont clubman suggesting that Claremont player C. Bannister was indeed his son.

Private Charles Norman Bannister served in France and was wounded in action, receiving a gunshot wound to his left thigh on 24 June 1918. As a result he was evacuated to England and invalided back to Australia. While it isn’t clear whether he (or his father) is the C. Bannister playing before the war, he played for the club postwar before shifting to North Cottesloe.

He died 16 August 1971.
