An iron moulder from Stirling, Scotland, Alex McPherson captained Callies in 1914 and 1915. He enlisted in May 1915 and served at Gallipoli and in France. His time in the AIF was blighted by illness (dysentery) and he returned in March 1919.
Despite invitations to rejoin the club, postwar references to him are fleeting and inconclusive.
